About me
I am an herbalist and nature based artist on the Central coast of California. From a young age I deeply appreciated the natural world and felt very connected to my environment. As I struggled with health issues I depended on nature for healing in every aspect. As a child suffering from mental health issues the ocean and surfing saved my life. As a teenager and adult herbs and Nutrition have guided me to my life path and to healing. The natural world has always been there for me and our relationship is my sole life’s purpose. By sharing with the interconnectedness of human health and ecosystem health through my Environmental studies Degree at UCSC and my work as an herbalist I am able to connect my healing journey to big picture healing and (eco)system change.
Art has always been there for me alongside nature. As a child who felt disconnected and was very inward, art gave me an outlet to express myself. Through some of the hardest moments of my life art has been there for me and has allowed me to let out my feelings and share my inner world with others. As I deepened my knowledge in the ecology of the environment and of the human body, my artwork followed my passion by expressing my relationship to the environment through visual creations. l always am curious and fascinated with other beings in the natural world and drawing them allows me to connect with them and learn more about them on a deeper level than researching them ever could. During my time at UC Santa Cruz, art classes were off limits for non-art majors which broke my heart as an artist. I dreamt so badly of merging my passions. Luckily, I was able to take a course in my department (ENVS) called natural history illustration (based off of the MA science illustration at CSUMB that was formerly offered at UCSC). This class allowed me to deepen my art skills, expand my media, and fall in love with art as a form of scientific communication. Towards the end of my time in college I began creating my first art prints- giving them as gifts and selling some. Throughout herb school -at the California School of Herbal Studies- I created art related to herbalism: creative notes, botany projects, and herbal monographs sharing information about plants. I worked on more detailed pieces and began block printing and creating paper mâche mushrooms all of which I was able to sell alongside herbal product at theASI Cal Poly Christmas Market 20226, SLOCALLY made 2026, and continue to sell at Mystic Nature (who also prints most of my art for me). Although art is a side gig, I hope one day art, alongside my practice as a community herbalist, will be enough to sustain me.
In a longing for community around natural history illustration and more support with the ins and outs of being a small artist, as of Summer 2026 I have created a Nature Based Artists Collective for the Central Coast in hopes to bring together all sorts of natural history illustrators and artists who work with nature. The goals of this collective are to create a community, parter with non-profits and other organizations for commissions, education, and art shows, and to create more visibility and support for local nature based artists. I dream of deepening my skills alongside sharing my special relationship the natural world through artists residencies in the future. Outside of “typical art” herbalism is itself an art form I am forever developing in. Creating medicine, depicting medicinal plants, and providing education on herbalism merges my love of nature and art directly into a hands on practice. Art can be more than just visual and is often more powerful when it includes other senses. Working with sustainable practices, emotionally captivating and environmentally related art is at the core of my values as an artist and herbalist. I hope this comes through in my visual art and I hope you will join me in reconnecting humans to the Earth.
Outside of art, I run an herbal business called Willows in The Wind (website coming soon) where I see clients, host events, provide education, work with postpartum mammas, and create products. I work from an elemental and Ayurvedic perspective and focus on women’s health & lymphatic care. I am a member of the Central Coast Herbalists Guild which seeks to bring more herbal community to the Central Coast. I work at Outside Now as a nature connection mentor for children and I also nanny little ones. I am honored to live at The Lavra- an intentional community and non-profit that hosts events and gathers community in Arroyo Grande. I am often involved with agroecology and farming work- connecting food sovereignty, environmental health and justice, and holsitic health/nutrition. I enjoy teaching surf lessons, helping out with non-profits, exploring nature, connecting to others including my parter (Trent) and family. Without them I wouldn’t be able to chase my wild dreams! Extra shoutout to my uncle Nathan- an incredible artists and art teacher- for the many supplies and the other mentors along the way!
Fun Fact: Art, Chronic illness, and spirituality
I often weave spirituality into my work. I believe that the mind, body, and spirit are all part of the healing process and creativity is directly linked to spirituality and the air element in Ayurveda (which I am dominant in). Art is a practical, creative, phsycial, and spiritual practice for me. Alongside herbalism I feel it is my calling form my ancestors and the creator (or God) to create art. Not only do I weave this into my art, but when I create art, I believe it is a gift from the creator to be able to do so. As a woman experiencing chronic illness, art may seem like an unlikely pursuit given my condition. I experience hypermobility in my joints, leading to many health complications, Ever since I was a child my dominant (right) hand struggled to hold pencils and write. Into my early teens it was accompanied by great pain and inflammation earning me a diagnosis of tenosynovitis in my Right hand (often caused by hyper extension of the joint). Over time my ring finger on my right hand has seemingly “lost” its knuckle, despite my holsitic approach to caring for this condition. What I experience is most likely an extensor tendon discoloration and nerve issues as I have weakness, pain, discomfort and sometimes a complete inability to use my right hand. My handwriting is illegible most of the time as writing is a major trigger. However, by the grace of God /the creator, creating art doesn't seem to impact my hand in the same way. Although my hand looks rather unusual, I am still able to create detailed art from the beauty in my head without major pain or discomfort. The way I work with art is vastly different than other functions with my hand, such as writing, allowing me to continue my creative activities despite some challenges. I am forever grateful for this and feel it is obvious that I was meant to be an artist given this special gift from the universe that would otherwise be expected to be a major challenge.
